So after returning from a two-week vacation to California I began my latest challenge to become the best news and media relations professional Berea College has ever seen. A personnel shake up that saw three vacant positions in my department (not to worry, these were all voluntary actions by very good professionals) means that I moved from communications manager to news manager. It’s a good thing and allows the college to refocus my former position to one that solely does Web work.

In just a few short days I’ve had the opportunity to work with Sierra Magazine and US News and talk with newly crowned Miss Kentucky Djuan Trent, a recent Berea College graduate. It’s hard to get any better than that.

Now, if I can just get the news files organized … that’s a couple more weeks, unfortunately. So, if you have an idea for Berea-related news let me know. If you’re a news outlet needing to talk with an expert or explore the finer points of how Berea provides a tuition-free education to promising students … let me know. If you’re selling something, move on.

Nine days following knee surgery, I glad to report that I’m back at work.

The surgery went better than expected, but I have many weeks of rehab before me. This bodes well for my future basketball aspirations… after all … I still have four years of eligibility remaining.

So, let me thank Dr. Darren Johnson at UK Sports Medicine for his sense of humor and his skill as a surgeon. Both are quite cutting. As parting gifts I got a nifty tee shirt and a Cryo Cuff and a now half-used bottle of percocet. Drug abusers beware: I have three dogs and a 38 within reach.

Apparently my injury was the result of too much butt kicking at work. It just wore my knee out.

As we Bereans say … “onward and upward.”

Back in my cockpit
